Star Trek 's Nichelle Nichols Hospitalized Due to Stroke

The 82-year-old is resting at a hospital in Los Angeles.

Nichelle Nichols, who is best known for her role as Lieutenant Uhura in Star Trek, was hospitalized yesterday after suffering a mild stroke in her home.

According to TMZ, the 82-year-old was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital in an ambulance on Thursday evening. Luckily, the actress woke up and is resting comfortably hours after her arrival, but doctors are currently conducting tests to determine exactly how severe her condition is.

Nichols, who appeared on both Star Trek TV shows and six of the films, is an iconic staple in the franchise. She gained attention for being the first Black woman to have a major role on a television series.
