A city centre hotel is being built from fully-furnished shipping containers brought over from China.

The containers come with en suites and are being slotted together to create the new hotel in Manchester.

The 220-bedroom Holiday Inn Express claims to be the first 'molecular' hotel in the North West of England.

The modules come with interior fittings, full height windows, wallpaper, carpets, a ceiling and light fittings.

They weigh about 20 tonnes each and are stacked with all the rooms installed over a period of up to four weeks.

Once the containers are in place the building will be given an external finish to make it look more appealing.

The chain hotel at Trafford City is being operated by Tower Hotel Management, part of the Peel Group.

The Holiday Inn Express is situated on a 1.75 acre site next to EventCity and it is expected to open next June.
