NewsChannel 9 has confirmed through the family that Patrick Sharrock has passed away.

NewsChannel 9's Kim Chapman has confirmed with the family that Sharrock died in his sleep early Friday morning.

Patrick Sharrock was known in the community as class president of Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School, a comedian, and an inspiration. Living with brittle bone disease, Patrick never let anyone know his struggles.

"You would have never thought there was anything wrong with him," says Jane Kaylor with the Ronald McDonald House at Erlanger. Jane worked with the Sharrock family while they stayed at the Ronald McDonald House during Patrick's hospital stays. She says, "They are an exceptional family."

Kaylor says that Patrick made the best of everyday, always bringing a smile to those around him.

"What a character he was, you knew Patrick was in the house when he was here..he was always telling jokes and pulling pranks and he was just a delightful young man."

"He loved life and he was always having a good time."

Sharrock and his family have been an inspiration to the entire NewsChannel 9 community since he and his family were the subject of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition back in 2011. His family and friends gathered as he got to cheer along to the show he loved to watch, shouting "Move that bus!"

He made an impression on everyone he met, including Ty Pennington.

"This is a kid who faces challenges everyday who goes out of his way to other kids with disabilities and goes into rooms and literally if they don't have a smile on their face, he makes sure they do."

Now the community is left mourning the loss of Patrick, but Jane says, they are all better off for knowing him

"I think anybody that met him was inspired by his attitude for the challenges he faced," Kaylor told NewsChannel9.

"He will be missed by all of those who loved him."

Friday night was Homecoming night for Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School, and it turned into a bittersweet one. An announcer paid tribute to Sharrock over the speakers shortly before the national anthem. Watch James Torrez' report below.

Watch NewsChannel 9's complete coverage from February, 2011, the week Ty Pennington and his crew came to town:

Patrick had a condition called Ostegenesis Imperfecta, commonly known as brittle bone disease. That made it very easy for Patrick's bones to break, and was the reason he was confined to a wheelchair for most of his life.

Sharrock had medical issues earlier this summer, but he was eventually released from the hospital.

Just a few weeks later, in high spirits, Sharrock helped organize a blood drive for the hospital where he stayed.

His condition never dampened his spirit. He was loved by everyone who knew him, and by those who only knew him from seeing him on television. He always had a steady supply of wonderfully awful jokes that never failed to make everyone smile and laugh.

In a statement, the Miracle League of Whitfield County, Georgia expressed their heartbreak over Patrick's death, and made an announcement on Facebook in honor of Patrick:

"With shattered hearts, we must announce that Miracle League Player, Patrick "The Phoenix" Sharrock, has passed away. Our precious Patrick has been a player with the Miracle League since it was just a dream. On this day, the 5th anniversary of our first opening day, we dedicate our anniversary season to Patrick. Please pray for the Sharrock family and hold them in your hearts during this difficult time."
